Mini Test on Monday

As the title suggests I have another mini test- on Monday! So I have been doing a bit of revision, it is important that I do well in this one because next year there will be a special study mudule on 3D anatomy, where a sels=ect few will get to dissect with the head of anatomy- just something I am very keen to do because I am sort of quite interested in surgery (I don't really know, but I love cutting up!) and I feel I would benefit from the extra oportunity! Any way, it will be on the Cardiovascular system (my favourite) so I hope I manage to pull it off!
Besides that I have been hopping around on cruches all week because I had a boweling accident last weekend- I know, I know... hardly a dangerous sport, but you would be supprised what one of those balls can do to an unsuspecting foot! Well I hope to be walking normally by minday because it is getting boring now!
I had Firm 1 on Thursday, this was good, I sat in and observed, interviewed a patient and took a 'social history'. I then had to do my presentation on ACE inhibtors (a drug used in the treatment of hypertension)... something I was not looking forward to, but it went very well so I was quite happy about that. Oh, we also got given a BNF, not something we actually need, and we won't really be using them much either, but they are red (my 2nd favourite colour) and full of interesting information that could prove useful in an essay or something, plus it was free so bonus all round really!
We started our DRE (digestive, Renal and Endocrine) module on monday, one of the lecturers; Prof M Smith wrote one of the books that I bought, reading the book is ok- but the lecturs are just the same- still I guess it means I have a backup if I fall asleep of miss a lecture!
We have also had about seven lectures on Recombinant DNA... which is absolutely fascinating (if you believe that you will believe anything!) But we had to read about manipulation and cloning of genes etc, I am sure it will havce aplication later.
Last night, as I could hardly go to Medbar on cruches (well I could- but it required too much effort!) I cooked a 'Roast'... had a few friends round, drank a bit of wine and watched a couple of films.
There is a big hockey match tomorrow, against Exeter- I doubt I will be playing, but I will probably go and watch- then go to the pub afterwards!
Any way, tired now... I am going to rustle something fantastic up for my tea... cold baked beans from the can again then!- It's not that bad really, lazy but acceptable, and saves on washing up. ;)
Bye for now

What a nice week it has been!

This week has been a really easy one- only a total of 14 hours of lectures!!! I have had a great time. The first week back was awful, what with exams and then loads of new horrible, hard infromation. But the cardiovascular stuff is making much more sense and I am finding it extremely interesting. this morning there was an ECG (electrocardiogram) practical session, I found that a) my heart is, in fact, there. b) its nice and healthy.. and it was loads of fun just to muck around with the equipment etc, obviously we were working very hard too!
I have just completed my presentation on ACE inhibitors, this is assessed for my Frim 1 (GP's surgery thing) which I am pleased with, I will have to present on Thursday, infront a load of GP's- ahhhhhhhh. I will have to go grocery shopping tomorrow to stock up, and then in the evening I have a hockey social to go to- boweling (oh dear)... not something I am particularly good at but never mind! But first it is Medbar tonight. So I hope everyone has a great weekend.
Bye for now.

1st week back

Hello! Well I hope everyone had a fantastic Christmas and new year's party!!! I must say it is nice to be back, but we were not exactly eased in- Monday and Tuesday were taken up with some particularly murderous exams... but now they are over, the week has passed (in true lightening speed style as usual). Thursday was Firm 1- we did 'Health beliefs and the GIT' so we talked a lot about IBS, dyspepsia and all sorts of other wonderful related complaints... the best part was talking about poo etc, for the whole day, and performing an abdominal exam! What a tiring week it has been thoug, as we have now started a new module called DRE1- Digestive, renal and Endocrine (1)... as well as CVR- Cardiovascular and Respiratory Systems. All fun and interesting, today, in anatomy, we even played with a plastinated specimen of a typical heart- plastinated is basically where a REAL heart has been taken out of a cadaver and treated with parafin so it is ridgid...Hockey, on tuesday, was fun- I arrived late but made up for it, by accepting drinking fines in the bar afterwards. There's probably a match I am supposed to turn up to on Sunday, actually I have quite a bit of work to do this weekend (suprise), but it shall start very well with Medbar tonight!!!
OK- so have a good weekend everyone. Bye for now
